Announcing Blogging Workshops in Mexico

0 Posted by - February 18, 2013 - Life, Mexico

I’ve been teaching blogging for creatives — specifically people who have story-based blogs with lots of photography — since 2011 at blogbrilliantly.com. My online course has about 100 students in it on average, and I’m really proud of the support and positive community we’ve developed and our heavy writing/photography focus.

This year, we’re finally in a place long enough, to do workshops, which is something I’ve always wanted to do. While working online together is fantastic, I really love face-to-face interactions. There’s an energy there and it’s also more efficient. I can write five pages on how to do something, or I could just show you in about five minutes. Since we have this beautiful rustic house on the Pacific coast, just minutes from the surfing paradise of Sayulita and a short drive from vacation mecca Puerto Vallarta, Drew and I said to each other: “This is it, the perfect spot to do this.”

We’re doing very small workshops, limited to 12 people for each one, and I’ve already announced it to my current students, so some seats have been snapped up. We’ll be spending five days together, under the flowering trees in our Mexican hacienda, with topics ranging from writing to photography to story telling to focusing on long-term goals.

The Dates

April 22 – 26, 2013
May 6 – 10, 2013
June 3 – 7, 2013

Future workshops

I’m trying to get a few other people out here this spring (if not this year, then next) so we can do things like a hands-on photography course, an SEO for creatives course and perhaps some more in-depth writing courses (like blog to book proposal boot camps). You can sign up at Blog Brilliantly for updates on new workshops.

Okay so a little dream of mine has ALWAYS been to run a writers/photography workshop overseas… now it’s happening! http://t.co/kUCo6EXh

Very cool :) You know I might have to crash your first workshop. Actually, I will probably stop by for a visit just after it ends.

I’ve thought about doing something similar in Medellin. I’ll be interested to hear how it goes.

Hey Dave! If your time overlaps, you’re welcome to stop on by! Looking forward to seeing you when you get here. I think doing something similar in Medellin would be awesome.

If you are running these next winter I will definitely enrol. Unfortunately we are leaving Mexico at the end of the month.

      Emma-

Yeah, it’ll probably just be in the winter/spring, best time to be here. We return from Taiwan next Jan/Feb so it’ll probably be after that!

Well, we have space, but not THAT much space Melissa:) That will have to wait until 2016 when we open the official “Brilliant Compound” blogger commune.

That was a joke. I think. Unless I just gave Christine some sort of crazy idea. I may have opened Pandora’s Box there.

A BLOGGING COMPOUND!!! OMG. Yes. This. :)

  • Susan Melcher Reed

OMG… Blogging Compound. I would totally join that commune.

He he, the comments above are too funny. Careful what you wish for, eh?! A house-full of neurotic, ego-fueled bloggers armed with their DSLRs and inferiority complexes… near your children?! Okay, maybe that’s just me… But seriously, wonderful idea, I wish I could be there!
